Derek's Primary role is in the camera dept. as operator and DP. Derek is passionate about storytelling and is also runs a boutique production company. Derek produces business stories and commercials by day and by night narrative and documentary films. Derek does a lot of work in the corporate and non profit space but will jump at every chance to help create narrative films and documentaries. Sometimes that meant spending time with ascetics in remote parts of India other times hearing the stories of people living in the 9th Ward in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck. What has remained consistent throughout his creative career is an urgency he feels to share stories. Recently he has had the opportunity to produce a web series with the city of Seattle as well as direct and shoot broadcast commercials and short films. Derek has a vested interest in producing original content but loves to direct a crew as DoP in addition, to giving support to other filmmakers as either a Gaffer, Grip or Electric technician. Derek's biggest awards included acting as a camera operator on 4 films that won Emmy’s’ and his short film “Mother’s Garden” was featured at festivals in Hollywood and beyond. Derek’s career in still photography laid the foundation for his journey into independent film. His long term goals include; becoming a show-runner for an episodic TV, narrative production and working in the camera department as DoP for independent film.
